Public Information Act

The Maryland Public Information Act (PIA) gives the public a general right to have access to information about the affairs of government and the official acts of public officials and employees. The PIA covers many types of records with varying requirements for disclosure. Certain Commission records may be privileged by law or exempt from disclosure and must be withheld. Examples include, but are not limited to, records containing attorney-client advice, attorney work product, and personnel records. Certain records may be provided with confidential or proprietary information redacted.

There are many Commission records and documents that are available to any person immediately upon request. Most of these documents are electronically available on the Commission’s website and can be downloaded or viewed without the need for a request being submitted. A list of immediately available documents can be found here.

Any requests for records or documents not on the list of immediately available documents may be requested by submitting a written signed letter identifying the records or documents sought. The letter may be submitted as an attachment to an email.
