The Telecommunications Division

The Telecommunications Division regulates the delivery of wholesale and local retail telecommunications services in the state of Maryland. The Division’s output generally constitutes recommendations to the Commission, but also includes publication of industry status reports and responses to inquiries from elected officials, and industry stakeholders. The Division reviews applications for authority to provide regulated telephone services, reviews tariff filings (documents filed by a carrier describing the applicable regulated services to be offered and the payments to be charged for those services) from such providers, monitors the administration of telephone numbering resources for the State, administers the certification of all payphone providers in the state, monitors the provision of low-income services, Enhanced 911 for wireless customers, and telecommunications relay services, and regulates intrastate inmate calling service providers.
