MAWC Public Comment Hearings (9808)

On August 1, 2025, Maryland-American Water Company (“MAWC” or the “Company”) filed an application with the Commission for authority to increase its rates and charges for water service and to amend its tariff provisions for the two water companies it operates, including supporting testimony and schedules.1 A pre-hearing conference was held on September 8, 2025, during which the Commission adopted a procedural schedule for the matter, except for the
schedule for evening public comment hearings.
Notice is hereby given that hearings for the purpose of soliciting comments from the public will be held on Monday, December 8, 2025, beginning at 6:00 p.m., at the Harford County of Council Chamber, 212 S. Bond Street, 2nd Floor, Bel Air, Maryland 21014, and Monday, December 15, 2025, beginning at 6:00 p.m., at the Severn Center, 1160A Reece Road, Severn, Maryland 21144. If you would like to speak at either hearing, please send an email to kimberly.schock@maryland.gov by 12:00 noon on Friday, December 5, 2025 for the first hearing, or by Friday, December 12, 2025 for the second hearing. In the subject line of the email, please include “MAWC Speaker”; and within the text of the email, indicate which hearing date you wish to speak at. Anyone wishing to observe the live stream of the public hearings may do so via the Commission’s YouTube channel.3 Please also direct any questions about the public hearing to kimberly.schock@maryland.gov.
Written comments on this matter may also be submitted electronically or by first-class mail by December 31, 2025. Comments submitted electronically must be submitted through the Commission’s Public Comment Dropbox, which can be accessed through the Commission’s website at http://www.psc.state.md.us/. Instructions for logging into the Public Comment Dropbox are located under the “Tools” section of the Commission’s website under the “Make a Public Comment” tab, which can be accessed via the following link: https://www.psc.state.md.us/makea-public-comment/. Commenters using the Public Comment Dropbox for the first-time are required to complete a one-time registration. All comments must include a reference to Case No. 9808. If submitted by first-class mail, comments must be addressed to Andrew S. Johnston, Executive Secretary, Maryland Public Service Commission, William Donald Schaefer Tower, 6 St. Paul Street, 16th Floor, Baltimore, Maryland 21202, and reference “Case No. 9808” in the subject line.
MAWC is hereby directed to publish a notice of the public comment hearings, including the caption, case number, the time, date, access information for the hearing, and the deadline for written comments as a display advertisement in newspapers in general circulation throughout MAWC’s service area at least two times each before December 8, 2025 and December 15, 2025 respectively.
MAWC is also directed to place on its homepage a notice of the public hearings in a manner that a customer need not click the link to determine the date, time, and purpose of the public hearings or the date by which public comments must be filed. Further, MAWC is directed to employ any routinely used social media platforms, such as Twitter or Facebook, and any other usual means of communication to further notify its customers of the public hearings and the dates by which public comments must be filed.
