The Water Division

The Commission regulates water utilities operating in Maryland.  Currently, the Commission regulates the rates of 22 water and water/sewage systems.  The 22 water companies under the Commission’s jurisdiction represent a small percentage of the population, with approximately 11,000 residential customers.  The majority of water systems in Maryland are municipal systems whose supply, infrastructure, customer care, and rates are not regulated by the Commission.  The Commission regulates the infrastructure, rates, management, and billing for the 22 water systems that fall under its jurisdiction.  The Commission also reviews and authorizes new franchises for water companies, new construction, consolidation of water systems, and promulgates water conservation and safety policies.

The following table presents the name, county, and area served of all of the regulated water systems in Maryland.
