Commissioner Jeannette M. Mills

Jeannette M. Mills was appointed to the Maryland Public Service Commission in June 2015 to complete a term through June 2019. Most recently, Commissioner Mills served as the Executive Vice President of Take Shape For Life, the direct selling division of Medifast, a leading weight management and healthy living products company. This personal coaching division provided corporate field support for more than 10,000 Independent Health Coaches nationwide.

Prior to joining the Senior Executive team of Medifast, Commissioner Mills was a member of the Board of Directors of Medifast from 2008 until 2013. During her tenure, Commissioner Mills served as the Chairperson of the Compensation Committee.

Commissioner Mills began her career in 1988 with Baltimore Gas and Electric (BGE). During her career at BGE, Commissioner Mills held mission critical positions in the areas of Gas Business Operations and Planning, Business Transformation, Gas and Electric New Business, Electric System Planning, Customer Operations, Resource Management, and Project Engineering. She advanced steadily through increasing levels of trust and responsibility from Associate Engineer and Engineer to Senior Engineer, Supervisor, Director, Manager, and Vice President.

As BGE’s Chief Customer Officer and Vice President of Customer Operations, Commissioner Mills functioned as executive level management of a division responsible for the overall processes, systems, and planning that supported internal and external customer interfaces. These included customer contact center, billing and related services, outdoor lighting, service quality investigations, new connections (including pre-engineering and contractual activities), and key business relationships. She was also responsible for accounts receivable management, energy assistance, and the outdoor lighting business.

Commissioner Mills holds a Bachelors of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from Virginia Tech and a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) from Loyola University. In 2009 and 2013, she was named by the Daily Record as one of Maryland’s Top 100 Women, and in 2016, to the paper’s Top 100 Women Circle of Excellence. She also received the Black Engineer of the Year (BEYA) Pioneer Award in 2009. Savoy Magazine recognized her in 2008 as one of the Top 100 Most Influential Blacks in Corporate America. The Baltimore Business Journal selected her as a “40 under 40” in 2006.

Commissioner Mills is a member of the Greater Baltimore Medical Center Board of Directors and the Advisory Board to Virginia Tech’s College of Engineering. She also serves as Vice Chair of the Committee on Energy Resources and the Environment for the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC).
